Tvang i psykiatrisk sykehus

Abstract

Amalie Skram utgav i 1895 romanene “Professor Hieronimus” og “På St. Jørgen”. Her beskriver hun en kvinnes kamp mot galskapen og opplevelsen av å være innlagt på en lukket avdeling. Kampen mot autoritetene står sentralt. KenKeseys roman “Gjøkeredet” beskriver livet på sinnsykehuset. Vi opplever en hverdag preget av kontroll, høye gjerder, innelåsing, medlisinering og “gruppeterapi”. Hovedpersonen gjør opprør og tar blant annet med pasientene ut på tur. Konsekvensen blir lobotomi for “opprøreren”. Romanene er forskjellige. De er skrevet med nærmere 70 års mellomrom, av henholdsvis en kvinne og en mann og fra hver sin side av Atlanterhavet. Likevel finnes det flere likhetstrekk. Asylet som et fristed der det er godt å være når en er syk og i akutt krise, er langt fra kjennetegnet. Er romanene like aktuelle eller har det skjedd forandringer? Er bruk av tvang overfor psykiatriske pasienter fortsatt en del av hverdagen?
