Abstract

Formålet med denne studien var å undersøke implisitte og eksplisitte holdninger mot eldre arbeidere i Norge. I studie 1 undersøkte vi norske studenters spontane tanker om vanlige stereotypier mot eldre arbeidere i det norske samfunnet. Den kvalitative analysen viste at norske stereotypier mot eldre arbeidere samsvarer med stereotypier fra andre land. I tillegg pilot-testet og identifiserte vi et bildemateriale som ble brukt i Studie 2 for Implicit Association Test. I studie 2 undersøkte vi studenters implisitte og eksplisitte holdninger mot eldre arbeidere. Vi forsøkte også å påvirke holdningene med primingene pro-yngre og pro- eldre, samt utforske atferdsintensjonen til deltakerne. Resultatene viste at norske studenter har en eksplisitt og implisitt preferanse for yngre arbeidere over eldre arbeidere. Priming hadde ingen effekt på denne preferansen, men for deltakerne i primingen pro-eldre så det ut til at det var oppstått en holdningsambivalens. Vår måling av atferdsintensjon viste ingen klar korrelasjon med holdningene. Resultatene våre indikerer at norske studenter ikke nødvendigvis misliker eldre arbeidere, men at de eksplisitt og implisitt foretrekker yngre arbeidere over eldre arbeidere.
