Modellering van eutrofiering en herstelmaatregelen in de Reeuwijkse Plassen

Abstract

De Reeuwijkse Plassen zijn de afgelopen decennia zeer eutroof geworden. De hoofdoorzaak was de toevoer van fosfor naar het systeem. De verontrusting over de troebele situatie in de plas heeft geleid tot het uitvoeren van ecosysteemgericht onderzoek. Met behulp van de resultaten van dit onderzoek en het ecosysteemmodel PCLAKE werd gepoogd een aantal scenario's ter herstel van de waterkwaliteit door te rekenen. PCLAKE werd oorspronkelijk ontwikkeld onder de naam PCLOOS voor de Loosdrechtse Plassen (een plassengebied met analoge problemen). Sindsdien is het gecalibreerd op verschillende andere Nederlandse meren. De resultaten daarvan waren zodanig dat prognose van maatregelen in de Reeuwijkse Plassen tot de mogelijkheden behoorde. Vanwege de zeer grote hydrologische complexiteit van het Reeuwijkse Plassen systeem is er enige onzekerheid in de resultaten van de modelberekeningen. De deelplassen Elfhoeven en Nieuwenbroek werden doorgerekend. Voor Nieuwenbroek was geen fosforbalans beschikbaar. Deze werd m.b.v. extra aannames geschat uit de balans voor het totale plassengebied. Wanneer de belasting met fosfor met 60 % afneemt zal dat eenzelfde daling van de fosfor-concentratie bewerkstelligen. De concentratie van chlorofyl a en doorzicht verbeteren minder snel. Van de additionele maatregelen lijkt baggeren, gecombineerd met maatregelen ter vermindering van de resuspensie, het meest zinvol. Echter, alvorens zo'n beslissing te nemen dient gericht onderzoek plaats te vinden. Het uitvoeren van additionele maatregelen zonder een simultane reductie van de externe fosfortoevoer heeft geen zin.
