Adquisición de Vocabulario en una Segunda Lengua. Estrategias Cognitivas-Lazos Afectivos

Abstract

This study tries to shed some light on the cognitive processes used by students of a second language when learning vocabulary. The cholee of two extremely different groups (inmigrants/engineering students) has not been fortuitous since, in this way, we think we can focus the learning process in a more complete and contrastive manner. The results show that, in the two cases, the students develop similar cognitive strategies, although, perhaps because of the cultural level, the percentage of use of the aforementioned tools varíes considerably: the more outstanding difference is the study of vocabulary through translation and lists, techniques used by the inmigrant students. We would also like to point the important role of the affective feeling towards the object of study, which leads us to the consideration of the importance of the teacher in this respect.
