Relatos de viajes en Grecia

Abstract

In a world geographically restricted to the man in terms of locality, travelling was an extraordinary adventure. Without guides or maps which could orientate the traveller, strange tribes -frequently hostile ones- and monsters always watching over the arriving of an intruder who may take away by force their riches, the voyaging mission was entrusted to the hero, who began a journey either because of divine imposition -accomplishing a special purpose- or forced by the circumstances. The account of these adventures became a literary genre very popular in Greece: the tale of travelling which offered legendary lands and sceneries to the common citizen. Many of these narrations, due to the extraordinary elements included in them, made doubt people in the Ancient world.
