This article analyzes the factors that turn lack of security, on one hand, into a menace for democracy or, on the other, may lead to political violence. Lack of security is the main threat to democracy. Latin America is the most violent region among the underdeveloped countries. To improve its security conditions, a detailed study and knowledge of the current siruation is needed, as well as a reduction of inequality and a relief from poverry.
Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar los factores que hacen que la inseguridad constituya una amenaza para la democracia, así como su posible derivación en violencia política. La inseguridad es el problema que más amenaza la democracia. Latinoamérica es la región del mundo subdesarrollado más violenta del planeta. Mejorar la seguridad demanda estudio y conocimiento así como aliviar la pobreza y reducir la desigualdad.
