This bachelor’s Thesisfocuses on the study of the coffered ceiling of the Paraninfo at the University of Alcalá, one of the most culturally significant elements of its architecture, and a unique example among the wooden ceilings from the 16th century. Since its construction, the building has gone through various periods of neglect and abandonment, suffered structural problems, and undergone various interventions of varying quality. Nowadays, the recovery of its former splendour allows the Paraninfo to become the annual venue for the award ceremony of the Miguel de Cervantes Prize in literature, continuing the academic legacy promoted by cardinal Cisneros. Through an approach that combinesthe historical and documentary analysis with the use of three dimensional survey techniques, this work aims to deepen the technical and geometrical knowledge of the wooden ceiling. The survey methodology used, a combination of photogrammetry and laser scanning, has made it possible to generate precise and detailed graphic documentation. Based on the information obtained, a geometric analysis of the decorative design has been carried out, as well as a constructive interpretation of the hidden framework. This project is intended as an integral contribution for a better understanding of the formal and architectural values of the coffered ceiling.
