Introduction: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the procedure that enables the identification of a state of cardio-respiratory arrest and how to act against it. There are differences between the procedure to follow in infants and adults’ algorithms. It is important to educate medical students in both of them. At the moment, there is no regulation on the training of medical students in pediatric CPR. Materials and methods: a research study was made in two parts. An observational and descriptive first part to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes towards pediatric CPR in the medical degree on all public Universities in the Community of Madrid. The second part, an analytical and longitudinal study with two surveys: one before and the other after the pediatric CPR courses in final-year medical students of the University of Alcalá de Henares. Results: we obtained 323 responses to the first survey, with a range of correct answers to theoretical questions between 36.7-67.5%. The questions with a higher success rate were the same among the groups studied. 58.8% of the students surveyed were unsatisfied with the training received, with only 17.0% being capacitated to perform pediatric CPR. In the second survey a statistically significant improvement was achieved in the results. Conclusions: There is a wide range of improvement on medical students’ knowledge in pediatric CPR and the surveyed students were unsatisfied with the training received. Pediatric CPR courses are useful and should be implemented annually.
