Critical institutional studies in dance research: institutional dance studios

Abstract

La investigación en danza se ha enfocado tradicionalmente en el aspecto observable de una coreografía, es decir, lo que se ve en un escenario. No obstante, desde el comienzo del siglo XXI, diversas investigadoras de danza abogan por el desarrollo de una línea de investigación que vaya más allá de elementos estéticos e históricos, y se concentre en analizar las circunstancias que rodean todo el proceso de creación coreográfica. Este enfoque, conocido como crítica institucional aplicada a la investigación en danza, trata de sacar a la luz el entramado político, institucional, económico que hay detrás de cada coreografía, y que tienen un gran impacto en la vida y el trabajo de los y las artistas independientes de danza. Con el objetivo de enriquecer y contribuir a esta rama de conocimiento tan específica y reciente, esta tesis propone un análisis de los espacios de ensayo de carácter institucionales, como espacios que acogen o no el proceso de creación coreográfica. La razón de analizar estas organizaciones, frente a cualquier otra institución dancística, es su relevancia en la historia de la institucionalización de la danza desde finales del siglo XX hasta la actualidad; y como epicentro de una serie de decisiones políticas, económicas e institucionales que afectarán a la escena artística de su entorno. Para ello, se revisará la crítica institucional elaborada en la última década, profundamente enfocada a otro tipo de instituciones culturales, especialmente, museos y galerías, y se extraerán los parámetros para proponer un análisis. Finalmente, se aplicará a tres casos de estudio: Centro Coreográfico Canal (Madrid), Centre National de la Danse (París) y Tanzfabrik (Berlín).
