Abstract

This master's thesis aims to assess the European Central Bank's monetary policy in light of whether or not it achieved its stated objectives during the pandemic period spanning 2020 to 2021 within the Eurozone. To accomplish this, a macroeconomic and financial analysis will be conducted, examining variables such as inflation, the profitability of sovereign debt, and credit evolution. This analysis will utilize econometric modeling, employing ordinary least squared linear regression. Within this study, one can observe how the ECB's implemented programs, are expected to positively impact inflation and credit while simultaneously exerting a negative influence on sovereign debt profitability. In conclusion, this thesis will present findings and outline future avenues for research based on its outcomes. Additionally, it will explore potential monetary policy decisions for emerging health crises, similar as the one witnessed in the initial two years of this decade.
