Brutalismo: el futuro distópico de la arquitectura

Abstract

Art is a form of human expression that allows us to understand the context, values, and characteristics of the society that projects it. Given this characteristic, we can attempt to discern through it the trends in human thought and evolution. We seek to compare, then, two of the most influential artistic representations in spatiality and the construction of the world in which we live: architecture, which creates spaces, and cinema, which uses them as a method of representation. The goal is to establish relationships between them, and it evolves as a brutalist vision of the future in cinema is influenced by the context in which it has appeared in the past, which varies depending on the author's background. As per current trends, brutalism could be a conceptually viable solution in both dystopian and utopian futures, but likely not in the specific forms depicted in cinema.
