Iodine deficiency in the diet is a nutritional problem that during pregnancy leads to irreversible damage to the fetus. It is considered a public health problem since its consequences can cause a decrease in intellectual capacity, among others, and become a limitation for social progress. Although it is believed that developing countries are vulnerable to iodine deficiency, in developed countries, some population groups such as pregnant women are still vulnerable to suffering from this deficiency. In this review, a systematic search has been carried out on iodine deficiency in Spain in the last 10 years. The objective was to assess whether the consumption of iodized salt was sufficient to obtain the necessary iodine levels in pregnancy and to review the current state of deficiency in Spain. The data obtained were obtained from studies carried out by research groups and only three studies carried out at the national level were found: (Euthyroid (European project), Tirokid, Di@betes). As conclusions of the review, we determined that pregnant women and school-age children continue to suffer from iodine deficiency in some areas of Spain, that households that consume salt and iodine do not reach the percentages recommended by the WHO and that despite being a health problem public, iodine deficiency seems not to be present in programs and interventions in this category.
