Abstract

Semantic Dementia (SD) is a type of primary dementia that hasn´t been studied in depth, which explains the lack of literature regarding non- pharmacological treatment and prevention programs in relation to this medical condition. This is the reason why we diceded to create a SD Prevention Program in an early stage of the desease. This program aims to gather the current knowledge about DS cognitive and behavioural characteristics and potential treatment in order to delay its development. So to achieve this aim we chose various validated therapies such as cognitive stimulation, neuropsychological rehabilitation and speech and language therapy, which are proven to be effective on the recovery of cognitive and language impairment associated with dementia. Due to DS being a neurodegenerative desease, dependence and disability are two topics to appear in the near future of the patient and its caregiver. Thus we included psychoeducational sessions intended to give caregivers the knowledge to deal with DS symptoms and stress.
