Abstract

Homosexual and bisexual men seem to have problems in building and keeping sexualaffective relationships, lacking the necessary tools to cope with those problems. After analyzing the different factors that influence the appearance of psychological problems in these men, a connection was found between stigma, discrimination and violence, and evidence showed that stigma has an impact on mental health and on the satisfaction and success of same-sex couples. Building on this analysis, this essay proposes an intervention based on Participatory Action-Research (PAR) methodology and Gay Affirmative Psychotherapy, aiming to deal with psychological problems at an individual level but also to create an impact on social levels and prevent future psychological problems for other LGBT people.
