La Orden de las Hermanas Pobres de Santa Clara supuso un punto de inflexión en el desarrollo de la espiritualidad femenina a finales de la Plena Edad Media, pues no solo presentó un destino alternativo para las mujeres que deseaban huir del matrimonio y de la vida monacal tradicional, sino que además estuvo marcado por una serie de valores proto-feministas contrapuestos al ideal patriarcal de mujer sumisa, subordinada y dependiente, que acabó imponiéndose de la mano de las autoridades eclesiásticas.
The Order of the Poor Clare Sisters was a turning point in the development of female spirituality at the end of the Middle Ages, because presented an alternative destination for women who wanted to flee from marriage and traditional monastic life and was marked by proto-feminist values, opposed to the patriarchal ideal of a submissive, subordinate and dependent woman, which finally was imposed by the ecclesiastical authorities.
