The present work addresses the problem of the intermittency in wind power generation in the Iberian Peninsula. The options for stabilization by interconnecting different areas are assessed by means of a technique based on Empirical Orthogonal Teleconnections. This method improves the Principal Component Analysis used in other studies insofar as the spatial orthogonality constraint is removed. Results show that the north-easternmost and southernmost parts of the Peninsula offer the best prospects for interconnection, on account of their wind potential, high and uncorrelated to each other year-round.
