Seaweeds, mosses and ferns contribute to the production of cosmetics. These organisms may have several functions; such as contributing to the organoleptic properties of the formulation, as well as to its stabilization and preservation. Further more, they provide with bioactive compounds which involve a cosmetic activity; as an important function. In this document the classification and properties of seaweeds, mosses and ferns will be explained, and examples of products on the market will be given. That´s because certain compounds of these organisms have shown anti-aging properties, anti-photoaging, antioxidant, moisturizing, anti-cellulite, slimming, anti-inflammatory, bleaching...
Algas, musgos y helechos contribuyen a la producción de cosméticos. Estos organismos pueden tener varias funciones: contribuir a las propiedades organolépticas de la formulación, a la vez que a la estabilización o conservación de ésta y, lo más importante, proporcionar a la formulación compuestos bioactivos con actividad cosmética. En este trabajo se explicará la clasificación y propiedades de algas, musgos y helechos, y ejemplos de productos presentes en el mercado, dado que ciertos compuestos de estos organismos han demostrado tener propiedades antienvejemiento, antifotoenvejecimiento, antioxidante, hidratante, anticelulítico, adelgazantes, antiinflamatorias, blanqueantes…
