Biologic drugs are those containing one or more active ingredients produced by a biological source. The patent expiration of these drugs has led to the biosimilar appear. These drugs are similar in terms of efficacy, safety and quality to a biological already approved. As they’re based on a marketed drug, the essays required to approve biosimilars are less exhaustive, and they’re focused on demonstrating bioequivalence rather than proving their own activity (although it’s also necessary to make some clinical essays to prove the biosimilar’s safety itself). Analytical studies, preclinical and clinical essays required for the approval of the biosimilar, depends on the product and the biotherapeutical of reference. Also the emergence of these drugs is a very important economic savings. Now there are 20 biosimilar drugs approved by EMA (The European Medicines Agency), and 12 of them are marketed in Spain.

| selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 0 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
