Abstract

Ramalina farinacea (L.) Ach. es un ascoliquen epífito de tipo fruticuloso con una amplia distribución geográfica, en el que coexisten los mismos dos ficobiontes (provisionalmente: Trebouxia sp. TR1 y Trebouxia sp. TR9) predominando uno u otro dependiendo del área geográfica. En este trabajo se plantea la hipótesis de que la asociación selectiva de Ramalina farinacea con TR1 y TR9 podría determinar su capacidad para colonizar ambientes muy diversos. Esta hipótesis podría explicarse en base a que cada uno de los ficobiontes tuviera comportamientos diferentes frente a condiciones ambientales más o menos estresantes. La presente memoria de Tesis Doctoral describe los estudios comparativos de las respuestas fisiológicas y mecanismos celulares presentes en los ficobiontes TR1 y TR9, que les permiten hacer frente a situaciones de estrés oxidativo. Se analizaron las respuestas a dos grados diferentes de estrés oxidativo: (i) estrés agudo inducido por el agente pro-oxidante Hidroperóxido de Cumeno; (ii) estrés sub-agudo o crónico generado por la presencia de metales pesados plomo (Pb) y cadmio (Cd) y por la rehidratación en presencia de Pb. En conjunto los resultados obtenidos sugieren que Trebouxia sp. TR1 y TR9 representan dos modelos diferentes de respuesta frente a condiciones ambientales estresantes. TR1 parece tener un sistema de defensa constitutivamente muy activo y responde al patrón clásico de organismo poiquilohídrico. TR9, en cambio, está protegida por una barrera exterior más potente que le permite mantener un sistema defensivo constitutivamente menos activo, el cual puede ser inducido bajo condiciones de estrés. Por otra parte, estudios previos indican la predominancia de uno u otro ficobionte dependiendo del área geográfica. En este trabajo, el análisis comparativo del comportamiento de los ficobiontes aislados y liquenizados durante la rehidratación en presencia de Pb indica que el ficobionte predominante es el principal responsable de la homeostasis rédox del liquen.
