Abstract

El empleo en los últimos años de biomateriales, tanto para la reparación como para la sustitución de tejidos en caso necesario, ha ido progresivamente en aumento. La excelente biocompatibilidad de los mismos, ha hecho que su empleo para el tratamiento de las eventraciones o defectos de pared abdominal se generalice en los protocolos de tratamiento de las hernias ventrales. Entre las complicaciones de mayor trascendencia tras el implante de materiales protésicos se encuentra la infección, el dolor crónico o la recidiva. Dichas complicaciones, sobre todo el dolor crónico y las recidivas, genera mucho gasto sanitario, ya que se traducen en consultas sucesivas por el mismo motivo requiriendo una nueva cirugía para paliar los síntomas. En la actualidad disponemos de nuevas prótesis biológicas procedentes de animales o de cadáver humano. Se consideran de elección pero solo en casos seleccionados como pueden ser los medios contaminados o defectos aponeuróticos importantes. Una de las características importantes de estos biomateriales es que actúan como soporte o andamio para guiar los procesos de reparación tisular. El éxito de dicha reparación dependerá del equilibrio entre los procesos de reparación propia del tejido y degradación de la prótesis. De esta forma se evitaría la presencia de un cuerpo extraño como es la prótesis irreabsorbible que provoca en algunas ocasiones dolor crónico lo que se traduce en una disminución muy importante de la calidad de vida, que afecta de forma negativa en los resultados obtenidos a la hora de realizar la cirugía. En el presente trabajo de Tesis Doctoral, hemos llevado a cabo un diseño experimental en el que pretendemos estudiar tanto a nivel intraperitoneal como extraperitoneal, el comportamiento de tres tipos de prótesis absorbibles BIO-A® (BioA), Tutomesh® (Tuto) y Stattice® (St).
