The Rotterdam Rules provide for a uniform and modern legal regime for international contracts for the carriage of goods by sea, which are wholly by sea, as well as for the contract for the international carriage of goods partly by sea, taking into account the commercial reality, the unimodal peculiarities of the unimodal conventions and possible conflict of conventions through a partial multimodality and the adoption of an international maritime plus approach.
