The work presented in this thesis is an attempt to investigate the influence of turbulence on the rate of propagation of a flame in a flowing gas stream. It is generally accepted that turbulence wrinkles or roughens the flame front and that the increased flame surface results in an overall rate of flame propagation greater than laminar value. Present investigations confirm that turbulence disrupts the flame front to a point where the concept of a flame front loses its utility, from the stand point of using ordinary photographic method of measuring flame speed.
