The people of Chippewa Falls Wisconsin are industrious and hardworking folk. Located at the confluence of the Chippewa River and Duncan Creek, the city of Chippewa Falls was a town that sprang up around the sawmills utilized by the White Pine logging industry. A logging town to begin with, Chippewa Falls soon saw other major industries move in and share a supporting role in the economy of this young city. While the city is now home to numerous industries and pioneering companies in a variety of fields, in the 1880s there was only lumber, flour mills, the brewery, and wool mills. By the 1920s, there were over 50 manufacturers, including a cigar factory, four shoe factories, a glove factory, and the Sugar beet factory, employing an estimated 3,000 workers. While a number of these industries have already had their stories preserved, others have not. This project looks to share the histories of some of the companies that are currently on display at the Chippewa Falls Museum of Industry and Technology and another that is not on display, but the museum has numerous artifacts from in its collection. This digital exhibition utilizes the Omeka platform in order to provide greater access to these stories using technology in accordance with the mission and vision of the Chippewa Falls Museum of Industry and Technology.
