Abstract

Este artigo trata das implicacoes psicologicas e pedagogicas suscitadas pelo debate travado em torno dos possiveis aspectos negativos e/ou positivos que a pratica do Bilinguismo Precoce pode provocar nas criancas. Constatam-se divergencias entre psicolinguistas e neurolinguistas sobre os beneficios ou nao em expor criancas em idade precoce para adquirir uma segunda lingua. E sabido que a metade da populacao do mundo e funcionalmente bilingue, o que indica que muitas criancas crescem, adquirindo normalmente duas ou mais linguas de forma espontânea no ambiente domestico e/ou escolar. Apresentamos, a partir da pesquisa em aquisicao da linguagem com criancas de familias que usam o italiano (talian) e o portugues em seu ambiente familiar, algumas conclusoes a luz de autores classicos como Lenneberg (1967) e Titone (1993), que defendem a existencia no cerebro humano de uma inicial plasticidade neurocerebral e uma incompleta lateralizacao hemisferica da primeira infância, permitindo facilmente a aquisicao de duas ou mais linguas em contexto familiar ou escolar, sem qualquer prejuizo de cunho psicologico e/ou neurologico para a crianca.
