Los entornos rurales como refugios de la diversidad biocultural: ejemplo de los paisajes culturales del sur de España

Abstract

El abandono rural constituye una de las problemáticas socio-ecológicas más críticas en España y en la región Mediterránea, ya que compromete la prosperidad y la resiliencia futura de los municipios. Las zonas rurales son el resultado de una coevolución histórica entre las sociedades humanas y su entorno natural, lo que ha dado lugar a paisajes con altos niveles de diversidad biocultural. Sin embargo, el abandono rural amenaza tanto la biodiversidad como los valores culturales profundamente arraigados en el territorio. Pese a su importancia, este fenómeno ha sido poco abordado desde una perspectiva socio-ecológica integral y considerando las visiones de las comunidades locales afectadas. En esta contribución se presentan resultados de investigación centrados en el sur de España. A través del desarrollo de metodologías socio-culturales evaluamos percepciones y valores asociados a tres casos de estudio que representan paisajes rurales y culturales. Los resultados muestran como las poblaciones locales identifican claramente como estos sistemas desempeñan un papel esencial al preservar la diversidad biocultural. En particular los valores relaciones, y las actividades dinamizadoras basadas en la comunidad generan componentes del bienestar humano que son altamente relevantes. El presente estudio hace un llamamiento para potenciar acciones que promuevan el mantenimiento de vínculos culturales que resultan clave para la conservación de estos entornos altamente valorados.
