Endotelinas y enfermedad coronaria

Abstract

Las endotelinas son una familia de péptidos sintetizados principalmente en las células endoteliales. Estas sustancias ejercen importantes efectos sobre el sistema cardiovascular y están involucradas probablemente en el desarrollo de la arteriosclerosis, la hipertensión sistémica y los síndromes coronarios agudos . Los niveles plasmáticos de endotelina-1 se correlacionan directamente con la extensión de la enfermedad arteriosclerótica y existe evidencia experimental de su participación en el proceso aterogénico . Estudios recientes en modelos animales sugieren un papel importante de estos autacoides en la extensión del infarto de miocardio . Las endotelinas se relacionan ademas con la angina inestable, la isquemia microvascular y la arteriosclerosis coronaria severa. La disponibilidad de antagonistas específicos para los receptores endotelinérgicos y su use en estudios clínicos futuros dilucidaran el papel real de estos nuevos péptidos en la fisiopatología de la enfermedad coronaria.
