Composición de género y rendimiento escolar

Abstract

Tesis (Magíster en Economía)--Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 2016 ; Al ser la educación considerada como un factor determinante del futuro laboral de las personas, se hace necesario identificar los componentes claves que impactan el proceso de aprendizaje. Siendo el ambiente escolar uno de ellos, en este trabajo se evalúa los efectos de la composición de género de los pares en el rendimiento académico de los alumnos utilizando un modelo lineal con efectos fijos. Tanto hombres como mujeres ven mejorado su rendimiento en la prueba Simce de matemáticas y lenguaje, al aumentar la proporción de mujeres en el cohorte. Se evalúan los mecanismos por donde la composición de género afecta el rendimiento de los alumnos y se encuentra que una mayor proporción de mujeres conlleva a un mejor comportamiento y ambiente dentro de la sala de clases, impactando así el rendimiento.
