La (falsa) épica de los pabellones nacionales: conflictos y contradicciones en las exposiciones universales

Abstract

Las exposiciones universales han sido importantes para mostrar los últimos avances tecnológicos y abrir debates sobre futuros posibles. A pesar de que se autoproclaman como plataformas para la educación y el progreso, aparecen contradicciones que cuestionan esta afirmación. El presente trabajo menciona la participación de Chile en estas exposiciones y cómo ha perpetuado ciertas lógicas coloniales, culturales y económicas a través de la elección de materiales y la construcción de una imagen-país en estas instancias bajo criterios “sustentables”, mediante argumentos que terminan siendo profundamente incoherentes. Asimismo, se reflexiona sobre la pertinencia de seguir haciendo exposiciones tal y como están y se plantean preguntas a futuro para abordar estas problemáticas en la futura Expo Osaka 2025.
