La ciudad como derecho

Abstract

El artículo reflexiona sobre el papel crucial de las ciudades en la consecución del Objetivo 11 de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de las Naciones Unidas, que busca hacer que las ciudades sean inclusivas, seguras, resilientes y sostenibles. Utilizando el marco analítico de Henri Lefebvre, se examinan los hitos alcanzados por las ciudades en este proceso. Se destaca la creciente importancia de las ciudades en la actualidad, ya que más de la mitad de la población mundial vive en entornos urbanos, y se espera que esta tendencia migratoria hacia la urbanización continúe. Se enfatiza que el cumplimiento de los objetivos de igualdad, erradicación de la pobreza, reducción de los efectos del cambio climático y garantía de una vida sana dependerá en gran medida del desarrollo sostenible de las ciudades. Además, se señala que el crecimiento económico inclusivo y el acceso a servicios públicos esenciales estarán vinculados al desarrollo económico de los países de ingresos bajos y medios. En síntesis, el artículo subraya el papel central de las ciudades en el logro de objetivos globales de desarrollo y destaca la necesidad de abordar su desarrollo de manera integral y sostenible.
