Forma urbana y vitalidad en la ciudad dispersa latinoamericana. El caso de Mendoza, Argentina

Abstract

La vitalidad urbana es una cualidad que puede contribuir a la sustentabilidad social de las metrópolis. Sin embargo, en la nueva ciudad dispersa latinoamericana, dicha vitalidad tiende a ser baja. Tomando como caso de estudio Mendoza (Argentina), el artículo explora cómo se relaciona el entorno construido con la vida en el espacio público. Se utiliza el análisis morfológico y la observación de la vitalidad en una muestra de doce unidades residenciales, para establecer correlaciones paramétricas y relaciones de carácter cualitativo. Los resultados muestran que la vitalidad urbana está relacionada con una mayor densidad habitacional, con una mejor integración del viario con el entorno y con espacios urbanos íntimos cuyas viviendas posean antejardines, todo lo cual señala la importancia de la morfología de cara a potenciar la presencia de usuarios. No obstante, esta dinámica es más acusada en las calles, ya que las plazas se muestran más independientes del entorno construido.
