Abstract

Este artículo aborda modos de vida de reciente creación formados por el desarrollo urbano planificado en la periferia de la ciudad, explorando las relaciones de dependencia con la ciudad y la interacción entre sus habitantes. Lo anterior, mediante un examen del caso de la ZODUC de Piedra Roja en la zona norte de Santiago, que conecta su análisis con las explicaciones existentes en temáticas de los suburbios y los procesos de fragmentación y segregación. Se usa el marco metodológico de la sintaxis espacial para analizar su configuración desde una escala metropolitana y comunal, y desde la integración de segmentos y tramos del sector. Junto con ello, se hace un análisis comparativo de las prácticas espaciales de los residentes. Los resultados respaldan que en la zona norte de la capital, se ha construido una innovadora forma de desarrollo urbano, en la cual se densifica el espacio residencial y se minimizan traslados hacia las afueras del sector. Aun cuando se asume que este proceso de desarrollo urbano permite la construcción de una nueva forma de vida contenida en un espacio que parece ser autosuficiente, es posible detectar defectos de accesibilidad y conectividad explicados en la presencia de barreras simbólicas.
