Midwifery training has become too academic and needs balancing by traditional apprenticeship methods, Professor Leslie Page, a member of the Department of Health's Expert Maternity Group, said last week. Intellectual and practical skills are 'not mutually exclusive', she told delegates at the English National Board's second annual national midwifery conference.
