Abstract

It is doubtful whether a grandfather has ever before been described as a nurse of the future but Jim McCarthy is 43, has been a milkman, a railway signalman and a lorry driver, and is an 18-stone grandad. RCN Congress delegates may recall him giving the final speech at Brighton this year heralded by Ravel's Bolero.
