The loss of nurses is so great that the profession replaces itself numerically once every six years. Over a third of all nurses who enter training never join the register. Quite clearly, a small percentage reduction in wastage would go a long way to easing the manpower problems. In general, this must be achieved by- taking account of the special needs of women who work and of those who are in training.
