A report from Action on Elder Abuse (AEA) has shown that in a quarter of cases where older people are abused, the abuse has come from professional carers. The findings are published in Hearing the Despair: The Reality of Elder Abuse and were compiled by the charity from an analysis of phone calls to its helpline, suggesting that nurses might be involved in abuse, and also highlighting the problems of nurses working with colleagues who they suspect might be abusing patients.
