Diamond Open Access (Diamond OA), in which no fees are charged to authors or readers, is currently in the spotlight. For two years, in a row the theme of International Open Access Week, has been “Community over Commercialization” and this year marks the Second Global Summit on Diamond Open Access among many other events. Despite its growing momentum and the fact that Diamond OA journals constitute 73% of the journals registered in DOAJ, these journals publish 3* times fewer articles than APC-based- Gold OA journalsi. One reason for this discrepancy is the lack of professionalization of Diamond OA Journals, primarily due to insufficient funding ii. To ensure that Diamond OA journals in the Netherlands thrive, we are establishing a national expertise center—a hub dedicated to facilitating the exchange of information and the creation of new resources and events around Diamond OA. This poster summarizes the different approaches we will use for various (scholarly) community members—researchers, editors, librarians, institutional publishing service providers, policymakers, and funders—to foster a thriving Diamond OA community. The national expertise center is part of the program Diamond Open Access in the Netherlands, funded by the Universities of the Netherlands (UNL) and launched by the Dutch Consortium of University Libraries (UKB) to reinforce and future-proof the national Diamond OA publishing landscape The other two projects part of the program are the monitoring of Diamond OA journals, articles and books in the Netherlands and developing a collective publication infrastructure for journals and books.
