Micofagia por roedores en un bosque templado del centro de México

Abstract

La micofagia por roedores en hongos hipogeos ha sido documentada en diversos ecosistemas a nivel mundial, sin embargo el consumo de hongos epigeos por este grupo ha sido pobremente estudiado. En el presente estudio, se evaluó la micofagia por dos especies de ratones silvestres (Peromyscus alstoni y P. maniculatus) en el hongo epigeo ectomicorrizógeno Russula aff. cuprea. Mediante pruebas experimentales se evaluó si estos ratones tienen una preferencia por consumir alguna estructura específica del hongo (píleo, himenio ó estípite). Asimismo, se analizó si el paso de este hongo a través del tracto digestivo afectaba la actividad metabólica esporal. Nuestros resultados indican que aunque el esporoma entero puede ser consumido, el himenio (parte fértil) fue la primera estructura seleccionada por ambas especies (p< 0.05), lo cual sugiere que esta estructura podría poseer algunos compuestos organolépticos atrayentes a los micófagos, como ha sido comprobado en algunos hongos hipogeos. Además, se encontró que el paso por el tracto digestivo de las dos especies de ratones no tiene un efecto significativo (p= 0.067) en la actividad metabólica esporal de R. aff. cuprea, sugiriendo que estos ratones silvestres podrían ser dispersores efectivos de las esporas de este hongo epigeo en el Parque Nacional La Malinche.
