La limpieza de sangre. Problemas de interpretación: acercamientos históricos y metodológicos

Abstract

This article presents a historical approach and a theoretical-methodological proposal for the analysis of racialization processes prior to modernity. To meet this goal, the proposal is inserted into the debate on the possible racialized character of blood cleansing, taking into account the power of discourse and everyday practices. After making a historical journey both in Spain and in the New Kingdom of Granada (XV-XVIII), it is concluded that from a peninsular racial anti-Judaism, the cleansing of blood in Latin America became a strategy of colonial racialization, because it codified social relations in a hierarchical way through bodily and cultural symbols.
