Introduction: Transmedia narratives

Abstract

Since Henry Jenkins’ seminal article on Transmedia Storytelling (2003), transmediality has become a key concept in interdisciplinary research, encompassing media studies, narratology, game studies, and digital arts. This introduction to Artnodes No. 18 explores the complexity of transmedia narratives, analyzing key debates such as the deconstruction of myths surrounding transmedia storytelling, the role of world-building, and the increasing influence of video games. The articles in this volume examine diverse perspectives, from character-driven transmedia storytelling to collaborative filmmaking, museum experiences, and theatre, highlighting the profound transformation of contemporary media culture.
