L'English Psalter de Rolle apparait comme un exemple frappant qui vient contredire la mort de la lectio divina a la fin du Moyen Age. Le psautier est le texte monastique par excellence, la veritable base de l'office divin. Le but de Rolle est avant tout meditatif. Il ouvre non seulement une voie pour les lecteurs de langue vernaculaire dans le jardin secret des Psaumes, mais les invite egalement grâce a son modele de traduction et d'exposition, a une forme meditative de lecture.
