Dans le cadre de la tradition aristotelico-thomiste, l'A. pose la question du rapport entre le bien commun politique et d'autres biens, surtout le bien prive de l'individu. Il constate que chez Aristote et Thomas d'Aquin, la discussion met en lumiere non une opposition du bien commun au bien de chaque citoyen, mais plutot une opposition du bien commun aux interets prives des gouvernants
