Abstract

La production de cartes dans un contexte de négociation et de protection des territoires ancestraux autochtones est régulièrement décrite dans la littérature scientifique comme une pratique de contre-cartographies autochtones, c’est-à-dire comme une contre-proposition à des représentations dominantes du territoire. À partir de la description des démarches cartographiques menées par les membres de la nation Atikamekw Nehiriowisiw (Québec, Canada), le texte souligne les retombées socioculturelles des études et des projets cartographiques menés dans un contexte de négociation territoriale. L’analyse soutient que les méthodes de recherche cartographique employées favorisent à la fois le développement des compétences, l’acquisition et la transmission des savoirs territoriaux et de la langue autochtone (nehiromowin). En cela, les démarches cartographiques menées par les membres de la nation depuis les années 1980 proposent des visions et des pratiques alternatives aux projets extractivistes issus du modèle néolibéral dominant.
