Analyse du langage dans la création d’une historiographie en construction

Abstract

Le présent article montre les résultats d’une recherche réalisée dans le cadre d’un projet de maîtrise qui concernait l’historiographie de l’artiste anishnabe Nadia Myre. Il s’agit d’une analyse de 147 textes au sujet de celle-ci. Le processus de recherche et de rédaction a été guidé par la question suivante : comment écrit-on à propos de l’oeuvre d’une femme autochtone ? Deux axes composent l’étude de l’historiographie de Myre. Le premier, quantitatif, permet de mesurer les moments clés de sa carrière. Le second, qualitatif, analyse les propos des différents auteurs. Malgré le fait qu’il s’agisse de l’analyse d’une artiste contemporaine, et que les textes ont été rédigés à son sujet entre 1999 et 2016, certains font encore état de propos essentialistes (mauvaise utilisation de la terminologie, conception figée dans le temps, usage de stéréotypes identitaires). Ces usages linguistiques cristallisent des visions erronées de l’autochtonie, notamment de manière romantique. Les questions de langage, de colonisation et de réappropriation sont les principaux axes de recherches.
