Les attentats revendiqués par des formations islamistes n’ont pas manqué d’attirer la réflexion de philosophes importants comme Judith Butler et Jean-Luc Nancy. Leurs réactions toutefois ne favorisent pas la compréhension dans la mesure où la philosophie de la déconstruction et la tradition postcoloniale laissent ouvertes des ambiguïtés sur la qualification des crimes et le statut des victimes.
