Rationalité scientifique et imaginaire social

Abstract

Toute production et tout produit scientifiques supposent un rapport inéliminable entre une rigueur à prétention universelle et des conditions pratiques de possibilité, autant d’a priori rationnels et a-rationnels d’ordre épistémologique, institutionnel, sociologique, politique et culturel. À une époque où un des soucis de nos sociétés démocratiques est de pouvoir garder, sinon prendre, le contrôle d’une part de leur destinée, avec l’essor des technologies nouvelles il importe de considérer les savoirs scientifiques et technologiques comme des institutions socio-historiques particulières. Mesures, quantifications et cohérences rationnelles s’articulent sur des questions de fond dont la pertinence sociale et culturelle échappe bien souvent à la rationalité instrumentale des savoirs scientifiques et technologiques établis. L’article tente de montrer en quoi des pertinences fondamentales peuvent réinterroger des rationalités en place et, grâce à des pratiques d’interdisciplinarité effectives, inscrire des problématiques neuves dans des procès de développement global.
