L’écotourisme au Nunavik

Abstract

Au Nunavik (Québec, Canada), depuis le milieu des années 2000, une vaste réflexion est en cours en vue de renouveler l’industrie touristique. Des activités et des façons de faire nouvelles sont envisagées, qui s’apparentent à l’écotourisme. En nous appuyant sur des entrevues effectuées dans la communauté de Kuujjuaq, nous explorons les représentations associées à l’écotourisme et concluons qu’elles sont une manifestation caractéristique de la postmodernité. Dans cette perspective, l’écotourisme s’oppose au tourisme de masse du point de vue de ses champs d’intérêt, de ses formes de consommation et de sa densité. Il peut contribuer à la matérialisation de certains idéaux reliés à l’environnement, la culture ou l’organisation politico-économique.
