Abstract

Ce texte illustre la tendance des médias télévisuels et écrits américains et québécois à exagérer l’importance de la « guerre culturelle » américaine et à présenter la polarisation de la société aux États-Unis comme une réalité indiscutable. Il démontre, en outre, que la thèse d’une société américaine polarisée et déchirée par les guerres culturelles ne fait pourtant pas consensus parmi les experts et propose quelques pistes pour comprendre le décalage entre l’interprétation des médias et celle des spécialistes. La dernière partie du texte décrit l’impact négatif de la popularité médiatique de la thèse de la guerre culturelle sur les sociétés québécoise et américaine ainsi que sur les relations entre le Québec et les États-Unis.
