This research analyzes the evolution, implementation, and impact of restorative justice in Costa Rica from 2020 to 2025, using a qualitative approach based on bibliographic analysis and case studies. The results reveal that the country has consolidated an institutional model supported by Law No. 9582, showing a sustained increase in restorative processes, high agreement-compliance rates, and positive public perception. The inclusion of a gender-sensitive approach, particularly in programs for women in vulnerable conditions and offenders linked to minor drug crimes, stands out as a major achievement. However, challenges remain regarding territorial coverage, interinstitutional coordination, and victim sensitization. It is concluded that Costa Rica’s restorative justice represents an innovative paradigm of peaceful conflict resolution that integrates judicial efficiency, social repair, and economic sustainability, contributing to a more humane, inclusive, and participatory justice system.
