Abstract

En este artículo planteamos el inicio de una propuesta propia frente a un tema bastante polémico y poco estudiado de manera seria1: la problemática de la existencia de un sistema de escritura andino en periodos tempranos. Desde nuestra Tesis de Licenciatura (Vargas, 2005) planteamos que la llamada “iconografía” del arte de Chavín era algo más que representaciones religiosas y que podían ‘leerse’ si se lograba entender y precisar la gramática usada para combinar los dibujos de aparentes ‘divinidades’ o seres de apariencia ‘monstruosa’. Sin embargo, creemos que abordar este tema de manera detallada, poco a poco, es viable, aprovechando la oportunidad brindada por el Boletín APAR en la persona de su Editor, Gori Tumi Echevarría López, a quien agradecemos la invitación a publicar aquí.
