Adherencia a tratamientos periodontales en pacientes con ansiedad dental severa

Abstract

La adherencia a los tratamientos periodontales en pacientes con ansiedad dental severa constituye una problemática relevante, debido a que las respuestas emocionales negativas frente al entorno clínico limitan la continuidad terapéutica y favorecen la progresión de la enfermedad periodontal. El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar la relación entre la ansiedad dental severa y la adherencia a tratamientos periodontales. Se empleó un enfoque cuantitativo, con diseño no experimental y corte transversal, basado en revisión de información secundaria de organismos nacionales e internacionales, complementado con estadística descriptiva, correlación de Spearman, regresión logística y modelos de ecuaciones estructurales. Los resultados mostraron una relación inversa significativa entre ansiedad dental y adherencia terapéutica, evidenciando que a mayor nivel de ansiedad, menor continuidad del tratamiento. Además, la ansiedad se identificó como predictor del abandono terapéutico y se comprobó que influye indirectamente mediante la percepción del dolor y la evitación conductual. Asimismo, se determinó que la baja adherencia incrementa el riesgo de progresión de la enfermedad periodontal y reduce la efectividad de las intervenciones clínicas. Estos hallazgos evidencian la necesidad de incorporar estrategias de manejo emocional y enfoques centrados en el paciente para mejorar la continuidad terapéutica.
